Escambia Academy is on a hot streak as the Cougars have won three track and field meets recently.

The Cougars won at Presbyterian Christian School in Hattiesburg, Miss. by a narrow margin 94-91. EA topped PCS, a school that won the state title in 2014 and 2015.

EA went on to win at Jay, Fla. on March 7 with 138 points, defeating Baker (115 points), Northview, Fla. (93 points), Pensacola Christian (53 points), Jay (50 points), Rocky Bayou (32 points), Central Allentown (29 points) and W.S. Neal (16 points).

Cougars track and field coach Hugh Fountain said his team won a rain-shortened meet at Selma on March 13, where 21 other AISA schools competed.

“We also competed in a freezing-cold weather shortened meet in Marianna, Fla., on March 15,” he said.

Fountain said team members broke personal records at the Marianna meet.

Jace Daniels recorded a personal best of 2 minutes, 13 seconds in the 800-meter; Patrick McGhee recorded a PB 40.6-foot triple jump; David Dobson ran a 11:03 in the 2-mile; the relay team of Brandon Gulsby, Gary Campbell, Tony Williams and David Dobson ran a 9:40 in the 4×800 relay; Fred Flavors ran a the 110-meter hurdles in 15.86 seconds and a 41.17-second 300-meter hurdles; and Kris Brown threw a PB in discus at 115 feet.

Fountain said Jackson Bonner has been strong in the 2-mile and Brown and McGhee continue to do well in the 100 and 200-meter dashes.

Later this season, EA will be in pursuit of a three-peat state championship in boys track. This feat has only been done three times in AISA history. The last time was 27 years ago.

The Cougars are in action today in Crestview, Fla. Next week, they will host a home meet on March 29.
