SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Roy Castle Sharpless, 87, died in a hospital in San Francisco, Calif. on July 15, 2010, of complications from acute leukemia.

Roy was born Nov. 23, 1922, in Walnut Hill, Escambia County, Fla. His parents were John Castle Sharpless and Mattie Lala Holley. He graduated from Escambia County High School in Atmore in 1940. He worked at NAS in Pensacola, Fla. for a few years.

He later traveled to California and found employment with an accounting firm in Los Angeles. Roy settled in San Francisco and began a business that specialized in accounting for the medical and dental professions.

His latest interest was the restoration of his great, great grandparents’ old home, which was built about 1860 in Pike County. The old home was moved to the Pioneer Museum in Troy and is now under restoration.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Jewell Grace Godwin, Geraldine Findley and Maxine Bell.

He is survived by a sister, Ellafair Cotter of Foley and a brother, John E. Sharpless of Fairhope and a host of loving nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in San Francisco, Calif., with his ashes scattered in the Pacific Ocean.
