Aquilla Alexander Bradford

Mr. Aquilla Alexander Bradford, 67, of Atmore, fell asleep in the arms of Jesus on Sun., Dec. 24, 2017, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.

A native of Mobile, Bradford was reared in Atmore, where he attended Escambia County Training School. He was a member of Gaines Chapel AME Church and was a retired employee with Monsanto as a draw twist machine operator. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and farming.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Aquilla Sr. and Elva Bradford; a daughter, Tracy Dortch Bradford; and three brothers, Walter, Robert, and Charles Bradford.

Those left to cherish memories of his life are his loving wife, Brunetta Bradford of Atmore; his children, Anita (Marcus) Williams, Jerry (Brenda) Nettles, Walteena Brooks, Shawanda Paula Woods, Lashawn Bradford, Latricka Bradford, Alto (Joann) McCants, Terry Dortch, Jeffery (Yolanda) McCants and Calvin (Marquita) McCants; three sisters, Gola (Min. McKinley) Dailey, Betty Stewart and Dorita (Roger) Purifoy, all of Atmore; a brother, James (Sarah) Bradford; a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends.

A funeral service was held Dec. 30, 2017 Gaines Chapel AME Church with the Rev. Amos Smith, pastor, officiating. Inhumation was in Fairview Cemetery with Turner Funeral Chapel LLC directing.

 

John Edward Brown

Mr. John Edward Brown, 74, of Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Atmore, entered his heavenly mansion on Tues., Dec. 19, 2017, in Fort Myers.

A native of Stockton, Brown was a member of Triumph Holiness Church of Stockton and was a retired forklift operator at Standard Furniture Co. after 43 years of service.

He is survived by a daughter, Vivian (Michael) Brown-Tolbert of Fort Myers; two sons, Steven Brown of Philadelphia, Penn. and Toronto (Brenda) Brown of Atmore; four sisters, Ocie Bell (Rayfield) Hubbard of Hurtsboro, Carrie (Mandela) Thomas of Austin, Texas, Deloris Clarke of Montgomery and Mary Artis of New Haven, Conn.; a brother, Larry (Denise) Brown of Fort Leavenworth, Kan.; 17 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends.

Funeral service was Dec. 30, 2017, at Empowerment Tabernacle Christian Center in Atmore with Bishop Darryl North, pastor, officiating. Inhumation was in Mt. Shiloh Cemetery in Nokomis with Turner Funeral Chapel LLC directing.

 

Audrey Marie Ames Turner

Mrs. Audrey Marie Ames Turner, 73, of Anniston, answered the master’s call on Wed., Dec. 27, 2017, at the residence of her son in Atmore.

A native of Detroit, Mich., Mrs. Turner was reared in Atmore and was a 1961 graduate of Escambia County Training School. After graduation, she relocated to Anniston and then went on to attend Alabama A&M University in Normal. On Nov. 19, 1966 she married Louie Turner Jr. They lived in Fort Polk, La. for a few years before returning back to Anniston in 1969. Her early work years were with Mason’s Department Store, K-mart and the R.L. Polk Co.

In 1979, she began working with Children Services at Constantine Daycare Center as a teacher, then as assistant director and lastly as director until the center closed in 1995. She later began working as a Case Aid with DHR until she retired in 2014. She was the president of Turner Funeral Chapel LLC.

A member of Friendship Baptist Church, Mrs. Turner had been a member of the Sarah Denard Matrons, the Mass Choir and had attended Sunday School.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louie Turner Jr.; a daughter, Crystal Lynn Turner; her mother, Maxcine Zeigler; her father, Robert Lee Ames; her grandmother (who reared her), Parie Lee Ames Crow; and her in laws, Louie Sr. and Pearl Turner. Emmett Zeigler Jr. also preceded her in death.

Those left to cherish memories of her beautiful life are her son, Louie Turner III of Atmore; her daughter, Alicia D. Turner of Anniston; her sister, Thomasa Zeigler of Detroit; her brother, Cornelius Gund of Detroit; her step-mother, Alice Ames of Detroit; 12 grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends.

Public viewing will be held this Sat., Jan 6, 2018, from noon until 6 p.m. in Longmire- Jones Memorial Chapel of Turner Funeral Chapel.

A second viewing will be held on Sun., Jan. 7, 2018 from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Ervin Funeral Chapel, 1518 Brown Avenue, Anniston, AL.

Funeral service will be held Mon., Jan. 8, 2018 at 1 p.m. at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 1130 W. 14th Street, Anniston with the Rev. Carlton Phillips, pastor, and the Rev. E. Baxter Morris, pastor, of First Baptist Church, North Ripley Street in Montgomery, as eulogist. Inhumation will be in Maple Grove Cemetery of Anniston.

In lieu of floral arrangements, the family is requesting that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Honor of Audrey M. Turner with Turner Funeral Chapel LLC directing.

 

Louis Chester Brazzell

Mr. Louis Chester Brazzell, 63, of Augusta, Ga., formerly of Atmore, died on Thurs., Dec. 28, 2017, at his residence.

A funeral service will be held on Sat., Jan. 6, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church of Atmore with the Rev. Willie Hawthorne, pastor, officiating. Inhumation will be in Fairview Cemetery with Turner Funeral Chapel LLC directing.

 

Shirley Ann Norman

Funeral service for Ms. Shirley Ann Norman, 55, of Atmore will be announced by Turner Funeral Chapel LLC.

Ms. Norman fell asleep in the arms of Jesus on Mon., Jan. 1, 2018, at her residence.

 

Gilbert Lee Crenshaw

Funeral service for Mr. Gilbert Lee Crenshaw, 55, of Philadelphia, Penn., formerly of Atmore, will be announced by Turner Funeral Chapel LLC.

Mr. Crenshaw died Sun., Dec. 31, 2017, in Philadelphia.

 

Mary Louise Quarker McMillan

Missionary Mary Louise Quarker McMillan, 86, entered her heavenly home on Sun., Dec. 31, 2017, at Atmore Community Hospital.

A native of Putnam, Missionary McMillan was a resident of Atmore for most of her life. She was a retired employee with Masland Carpet Co. She was a member of Mt. Gillead Baptist Church, then she joined the Faith Tabernacle Holiness Church. In 1988, her husband organized the Faith Pentecostal Holiness Church and she labored faithfully until the Lord called her home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bishop Purvis McMillan Sr.; a son, Purvis McMillian Jr.; two grandsons, Datron Kendrix and Terrell Norman; her parents, Rev. Shelley L. and Annie Bell Quarker; three sisters, Rosa Lee Sharpe, Flora Crawley and Rosa Maryland; six Brothers, James, Charlie, Shelley, Roy, Robert and Kenneth Quarker.

Those left to cherish loving memories of her life are children, Willie (Linda) McMillan of Beulah, Fla., Faye (James) Pettway of Atmore, Jerry (Flora) McMillan of Detroit, Mich., Valerie (Terrell) Jones of Birmingham, Renee Parker of Atmore, Teresa Norman of Atmore and Michael (Teresa) Norman of Montgomery; three sisters, Emma Lancaster of Brewton, Marcetta McCreary and Thelma Boykins, both of Los Angels, Calif.; William Quarker of Los Angeles; 18 grandchildren; a host of great- grandchildren; and great-great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; surrogate family; The McNeals; and friends.

Public viewing will be held this Fri., Jan. 5, 2018, from 2-4 p.m. at the funeral home and from 5-7 p.m. at the Faith Pentecostal Holiness Church on Jack Springs Road in Atmore (Freemanville Comm).

Funeral service will be held Sat., Jan. 6, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Gillead Baptist Church of Atmore (Freemanville Community) with the Rev. Carnell Otis, presiding and pastor Darlene McMillan, eulogist. Retirement of her remains will be in Pierce-Rabb Cemetery (Freemanville) with Turner Funeral Chapel LLC directing.

 

Angelo Wright

Mr. Angelo Wright, 48, a resident of Pensacola, Fla. and a native of Bay Minette, passed away on Fri., Dec. 29, 2017.

He was employed as a chef at the Hot Spot in Pensacola.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his mother, Josephine Wright of Bay Minette; devoted brother, Michael (Natquisha) Wright of Bay Minette; a sister, Jaime Wright of Bay Minette; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held this Sat., Jan. 6, 2018, at 11 a.m. at New Jerusalem Pentecostal Holiness Church in Bay Minette with Bishop Charles Johnson officiating.

Interment will be in Mutual Aid Cemetery in Bay Minette.

Clara O’Farrell

Mrs. Clara O’Farrell, 88, passed away on Tues., Dec. 26, 2017, in Mobile.

She was native of Pineville, Fla. and resided in Atmore. She was a member of the Atmore First Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Buford O’Farrrell; and brother, J.W. Hubbird.

Survivors include her son, Donald A. O’Farrell of Atmore; and four nieces and three nephews, Ronnie, Brenda, Janette, James, Joe, Regina and Candice.

Funeral services were held Dec. 30, 2017, from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Arnold Hendrix officiating.

Burial followed at the Serenity Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation was held Dec. 30 at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Church Deacons.

Donald Eugene Davis

Donald Eugene Davis, 85, of Davisville, Fla., died on Sat., Dec. 30, 2017, at his home.

He was born Jan. 16, 1932 to Ammon and Pearl Davis of Davisville. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and avid fan of the Blue Angels. For many years, he delivered buses from High Point, N.C. to Mississippi, Mobile and Atmore. He will also be remembered for driving the Van for the Senior Citizens in Davisville.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Bratt, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Lillian (Bill) Barclay, Ruby (James) Ziglar and Evelyn (Milton) Armstrong; and one brother, Dalton (Amelia) Davis.

He is survived by five nieces, Winifred Hollingsworth (Martin) of Davisville, Frances Cain of Pensacola, Fla., Tina Davis of Jacksonville, Fla., Sharon (Sue) Davis, Huntsville and Barbara Jo Davis of Texas; four nephews, Dwight Ziglar (Arleen) of Columbus, Ohio, Larry Davis (Ann) of Atmore, Terry (Joe) Davis (Beth) of Conroy, Texas and Jerry (Bubba) Davis (Barbara) of Huntsville; and a special cousin, Henry Davis, Perry, Fla. and many friends.

Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. tomorrow, Thurs., Jan. 4, 2018, at First Baptist Church in Bratt. Family viewing will be from 10 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m. with Culley’s Funeral Home directing. The Rev. Jesse Wood, Rev. Tim Hawsey and Rev. Delbert Redditt will be officiating. Burial will be at Serenity Gardens in Atmore.

Pallbearers are Dalton Brinson, Nick Cain, John Richard Davis, Ed Gilman, Mike Hanks, Jerry Mason, Dean Peters and Colt Tanner. (Alternate: Buddy Trawick).

 

Elmer Martell Bryant

Elmer Martell Bryant, of Atmore, son of Gracie Lee and Samuel Thomas Bryant, peacefully departed our earthly world on Thurs., Dec. 29, 2017.

He leaves behind two sisters, Faye Sasser and Ernestine Fields; his loving daughters, Mona Bryant and Donna Bryant; five grandchildren, Matt White, Gid White, Chelsea White, Channing Green, Trey Mancil and a loving companion, Irene Hicks

Services will be held at 2 p.m. this Sun., Jan. 7, 2018, from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel.

Charles Eric Gohagan

Mr. Charles Eric “Goat” Gohagan, 44, passed away on Thurs., Dec. 28, 2017, in Valley Grove, W.V.

He was born in Mobile and was a resident of Atmore most of his life, and resided in Flomaton. Eric was a devoted and loving husband to Teresa and father to Haley and Codey. He held great admiration and love for his mother, Regina and had a heart full of love for all of his siblings, nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, mother in law and father in law.

He was a welder by trade, working mainly in the offshore oilfields, gas and pipeline industry, where he formed and maintained some lifelong friendships. He was a hard worker devoted to providing for his family. He enjoyed the simple things in life like bass fishing, good food, particularly a good steak and a day of rest. He had an infectious smile with eyes that twinkled, which you couldn’t miss. He was good man and he was so loved. He was raised in the Bethel Methodist Church of Atmore and was a member of the Poplar Dell Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Alfred “Buck” Gohagan Sr.; and brother, Michael Gohagan.

He is survived by his mother, Regina Gohagan of Robinsonville; wife, Teresa Gohagan of Flomaton; one son, Robert Codey Hadley of Flomaton; one daughter, Haley Danielle Hadley of Flomaton; one brother, Lawrence Alfred “Larry” (Kambi) Gohagan Jr. of Atmore; three sisters, Kay Gohagan (Joe Frank) Wooten of Century, Fla., Emily Gohagan (Jeff) DeRidder of Brewton and Kristen Gohagan Branch of Atmore; mother and father in law, Judson and Delores Carden of Flomaton; and numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends, including an extended pipe line family.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow, Thurs., Jan. 4, 2018, from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Mitch Herring and the Rev. Waylon Stuckey officiating.

Burial will follow at the Poplar Dell Baptist Cemetery.

Filmer Stacey

Mr. Filmer Stacey, 59, passed away on Thurs., Dec. 28, 2017, at his residence in Rabun.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Rabun. He was of the Holiness Faith.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie and Clinie Stacey; two sisters, Flossie Stacey and Freida Johnston; and two brothers, Fate Stacey and Farrell Stacey.

He is survived by two brothers, Fred (Vicki Crowe) Stacey of Rabun and Fabian (Lucille) Stacey of Rabun; two sisters, Faye Luker of Perdido and Fern (Terry) Gill of Perdido; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held on Jan. 2, 2018, from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Bubba Rolin officiating.

Burial followed at the Dean Cemetery.

Mr. Jerry Dewayne Ard, 66, passed away on Tues., Dec. 26, 2017, in Mobile.

He was a native of Jay, Fla. and a resident of Atmore for most of his life. He attended the Cross Pointe Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Lena Ard; five brothers, Troy Ard, Tommy Ard, Bill Ard, RJ Ard and Carlton Ard; and two sisters, Mae Wright and Mamie Milstead.

He is survived by his wife, Myhala Cook Ard of Atmore; two sons, Terrel (Robin) Ard of Opelika and Tharon Ard of Gulf Port, Miss.; five daughters, Sheryl (Ronnie) Kirkland of Jay, Kellie Ard of Gulf Port, Karen Ard of Jay, Pamela Fletcher of Luling, La. and Melissa Anderson of Pensacola, Fla.; one brother, Roland Ard of Daleville; one sister, Geraldine Tedder of Milton, Fla.; and 11 grandchildren, Cody Ard, Kyle Ard, Adrianna Anthony, Ally Anthony, Mike Ammons, Alexis Ammons, Chasen Anderson, Haley Anderson, Ally Anderson, Hunter Kirkland and Marissa Kirkland.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Wed., Jan. 3, 2017, from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Mr. John Louis Gandy, 80, passed away on Sun., Dec. 24, 2017, in Flomaton.

He was a native of Bluff Springs, Fla., former resident of Century, Fla. and resided in Flomaton most of his life. He was a member of the Poplar Dell Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, J.L. and Louise Gandy; brother, William H. “Bill” Gandy; and grandson, Judson Slocom.

Neita Stewart Smith

Mrs. Neita Stewart Smith, 78, passed away on Fri., Dec. 29, 2017, in Century, Fla.

She was a native of Walnut Hill, Fla., former resident of Bratt, Fla. and has resided in Atmore, since 2012. She retired from the Escambia County Florida School Board with 33 years of service, and was a member of the Bratt First Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Ruth Stewart; brother, Robert Stewart; and brother in law, Abil Walt Dzurus Jr.

She is survived by her two sons, Glenn (Debbie) Smith of Atmore and Roger (Carrie) Smith of Atmore; and four sisters, Millie Dzurus of Orlando, Fla., Myrna (Ray) Hodges of Atmore, Jackie (David) Johnson of Century, and Diann Stewart of Century; five grandchildren; and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, Wed., Jan. 3, 2018, from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Hawsey and the Rev. Dale Johnson officiating.

Burial will follow at the Godwin Cemetery.

Visitation was held Jan. 2, 2018, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
