Anthony Corrone

Mr. Anthony “Larry” Corrone, 86, passed away on Sun., March 4, 2018, in Century, Fla.

He was a native of West Haven, Conn., a former resident of Bethany, Conn., and has resided in Century, Fla. for the past six years. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving with the U.S. Army. VFW Life Member of Connecticut, where he served as judge advocate and was the owner operator of Amity Excavating.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Susan Joan Corrone of Century; and one son, Lawrence John (Lesley) Corrone of Bethany.

A funeral service for Mr. Arrie Lee Riley, 69, of Dayton, Ohio, formerly of Atmore, will be announced by Turner Funeral Chapel LLC.

Mr. Riley fell asleep in the arms of Jesus on Fri., March 2, 2018, at Hospice of Dayton in Dayton.

Larry Fields Sr.

Mr. Larry Fields Sr., a resident of Stockton, passed away Tues., March 6, 2018.

Arrangements will be taken be care of Mayberry Funeral Home.

Beatrice Cook

Beatrice Cook, 84, of Walnut Hill, Fla., passed away peacefully on Sun., March 4, 2018, surrounded by her family.

She was born July 5, 1933, in Brewton as one of 10 children to the late Gussie and Martha Catherine Fuqua. She enjoyed reminiscing about her time growing up in Brewton and attending W.S. Neal as well as her time spent at Mount Berry School in Georgia.

She wrote her memoirs about those times in a book that her family will cherish. She met her husband Cecil E. Cook and they spent 50 years together. She held different occupations over her lifetime, but her most cherished job was being a mother to her five sons. She was a member of the Church of Christ, Atmore.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Cook; her siblings; and one grandson, Allan Cook.

She is survived by son, David Cook of Navarre, Fla.; and sons, Tony Cook of Auburn, Tim Cook (Vicki) of Bratt Fla., Richard Cook (Rebecca) of Oak Grove and Robin Cook of Garcon Point, Fla.

She had 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren who were also her pride and joy.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. this Sat., March 10, 2018, with Norman Newberry officiating. Visitation will begin prior to services at 10 a.m.

Pallbearers will be her sons, grandsons and family friend, Doyle King.

Interment will be at Green Acres Cemetery, in McCall.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to any children’s charitable organization of your choice.

Johnson Quimby is in charge of the arrangements.

 

Marvin Franklin Bethea

Marvin Franklin Bethea, 69, of Weatherford, went to be with the Lord on Fri., Feb. 23, 2018. Marvin was born on May 22, 1948, in Canoe, to Melton Floyd Bethea and Leomie Louise Jacobs Bethea. Marvin was a devoted member of Granbury Church of God. He was a long haul truck driver and enjoyed every minute of it. When not on the road, you could catch Marvin singing or playing his guitar.

Marvin is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Linda Carole of Bethea, TX; step-daughter Lana, Smith; step-sons, Terry Smith (Andrea), Chris Smith (Kerry) and James Jones (Scherry); sisters, Lila Nell Bethea Harper and Betty Ann Bethea Henderson; brother, David Bethea; grandchildren, Samantha Renee Washburn, Ethan Payne Jones, Sara Elaine Willard and James Willard; great-grandchildren, Jocelyn Grace and Karson Lee Morgan.

Marvin is preceded in death by his parents, Melton Floyd Bethea and Leomie Louise Jacobs Bethea; sister Patricia Bethea Neal; brother, Melton Lee Bethea; and grandson, Ernest Thomas Jones.

Private memorial service and burial will be announced at a later date.

Charles Davis II

On Wed., Feb. 28, 2018, Brother Charles Davis II exchanged his earthly home down here to be with the Lord in his heavenly mansion above.

Charles was born on Jan. 11, 1971, at Cook County Hospital in Chicago Ill. He was the son of Charles Davis Sr. and Patricia Collins, both of whom preceded him in death.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Ben Walker, Johnny Foster and Sean Davis, as well as three sisters, Nina Foster, Betty Jean Carmichael and Lula May.

In his passing, he leaves to cherish his memories, three sons, Charles (CJ) Davis III of Atlanta, Ga.,  and DeShawn Davis and Donivan Davis, both of Century, Fla.; two daughters, Jaquanda Jacobs and De’Andriz Johnson, both of Century; three grandchildren, Simora Brown, JaKerira Jacobs and JaKeyuan Jacobs;  two brothers, Patrick (Diane) Davis of Tuskegee and Jimmy Foster; sister, Jenay Jones; godmother, Evangelist Patricia Salter; devoted cousin, Sister Shawanda (Cartese) Poindexter; special friends, Albert “Flap” Spencer, Anthony and Rena Wesley and Pandora Brewer; and a host of  aunts, uncles, relatives and friends, as well as his faithful and devoted church family, the New-Regeneration Holiness Churches, Inc. in Stapleton and Atmore.

Charles was a graduate of Southern Normal High School in Brewton, which is an historical Christian School for African Americans. He was very athletic and excelled in football, basketball and served as a field commander of the marching band. (In 1997, the school’s name was changed to Southern Normal Academy of Alabama State University.) He also attended Jefferson Davis Community College and found his passion in barbering. Charles would cut hair for anyone in need — it’s what he loved to do the most.  Charles cut hair for more than 30 years and on Nov. 21, 2017, he and a friend, Anthony Wesley, opened their own barbershop in Flomaton and named it “Blessed Handz 2 Hair.” He was always full of jokes and loved to make people laugh. He wanted everyone to be happy and loved others to the fullest. He gave his life to God and was filled with the Holy Ghost nearly a year before his passing. He stated, “If I had known I would feel this good when I got saved, I would have done it a long time ago.”

Funeral services will be held at noon this Sat., March 10, 2018, from the Empowerment Tabernacle Campus No. 3 in Century, Fla., where Bishop Darryl North is the host pastor, Pastor Shirley Coleman, eulogist and pastor officiating. Interment will be held in Century-Flomaton cemetery in Century. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. this Fri., March 9, 2018, from the New Regneration Holiness Church No. 1 located at 521 North Main Street in Atmore.

Mayberry Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.

Clarence Leon Austin

Mr. Clarence Leon Austin, 64, of Atmore, formerly of Perdido, answered the Master’s Call on Fri., March 2, 2018, at his residence.

A native of Perdido, Mr. Austin had been a resident of Atmore for some years. He attended Central High School in Mobile. He had worked for Thompson Tractor as a supply clerk. He had served in the U. S. Army and was a fan of the Green Bay Packers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hezekiah and Anna Mack Austin; one sister, Arretha Washington; three brothers, Charles Sr., Marvin and Alphonse Austin; step-mother, Ruby Austin; and grandmother, Daisy Henderson.

Those left to cherish memories of his life are his spouse, Betty Ann Marshall of Atmore; a son, Ryan L. McDonald of Pensacola, Fla.; two sisters, Virginia Gaines of Prince George, Va. and Erika Austin of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, Paul (Mickey) Austin of Baltimore, Md. and Willie B. (Kim) Austin of New York, N.Y.; four grandchildren, a great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family.

A funeral service will be this Sat., March 10, 2018, at 2 p.m., at The Longmire-Jones Memorial Chapel of Turner Funeral Chapel. Inhumation will be in Morning Dove Cemetery in Perdido. Public viewing will be this Fri., March 9 from 2-7 p.m. at the funeral home with Turner Funeral Chapel LLC directing.

 

Delores Rolin Schultz

Mrs. Delores Rolin Schultz, 64, went to her heavenly home on Fri., March 2, 2018.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Poarch. She was a member of the Poarch Creek Indians, and attended the New Testament Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Peter Schultz; parents, George and Mary Rolin; and two brothers, Frank Rolin and Glenn Rolin.

She is survived by her brother, Billie Rolin of Poarch; one sister, Lenna Rackard of Atmore; one niece, Anita Glass of Atmore; five nephews, Glenn Rolin of Baytown, Texas, Jerry Rolin of Atmore, Kevin Rackard of Atmore, Rodney Rackard of Atmore and Tommy Rolin of Atmore; and a host of great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on March 6, 2018, from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. William “Bubba” Rolin.

Burial followed at New Home Cemetery.

Visitation was held March 5 at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Rolin, Keith Rackard, Jacob Rackard, Michael Glass, Chez Mercer and David Glass.

Eleanor C. Josey

Mrs. Eleanor C. Josey, 86, of Slidell, La., passed away on Wed., February 28, 2018, at her home.

She was born in Repton on July 10, 1931, to Clarence Lee Crawford and Katie Johnson Crawford. She was a former resident of Pensacola, Fla. and Monroe County and had lived in Louisiana for the past seven years. She was a homemaker and was a member of Enon Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Katie Crawford; her husband, John Allen Josey; and her son, John Calvin Josey.
Survivors include her daughter, Brenda Dorr; husband, Keith of Slidell, La.; one sister, Bessie Brantley of Atmore; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held March 3, 2018, from Monroe Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. C.L. Langford officiating. Burial followed in Zion Rest Cemetery. Visitation was held March 3, 2018 at the funeral home.

Elizabeth Ann Johnson

Elizabeth Ann Johnson, 71, of Atmore, passed away on Sun., Feb. 18, 2018, at her residence.

She was a barber, born on April 11, 1946, in Monroeville, to Edward and Myrtis E. Mosley Johnson. She enjoyed the outdoors and planting flowers. She loved the Lord very much, and her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her father, Edward Johnson; and a son, Christopher

Reynolds.

Survivors are her mother, Myrtis Hall of Atmore; one son, Mike Reynolds of Alaska; one daughter, Brandy Reynolds Wohlers of Prattville; two brothers, Eddie Johnson and LaDon (Annette) Hall, all of Atmore; Teresa Hall of South Carolina; six grandchildren, Sidney Wohlers, Kobe Wohlers, Lilly Wohlers, Holly Wohlers, Carmen Reynolds and Matthew Wohlers; and four great-grandchildren, Amber Johnson, Keely Mendlesohn, Gabe Brown and Christian Brown.

Services were held Feb. 23, 2018, from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home with Pastor Rob Arrant officiating. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Family received friends on Feb. 23 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Emily Ann Harris-Thames

Mrs. Emily Ann Harris-Thames died on Feb. 26, 2018.

She was born to the late Alberta Harris-Reynolds and Willie B. Harris on July 30, 1941, in Atmore, and passed away on Feb. 26, 2018, in Montgomery, at the home of Homer and Doritha Brown.

Early, after graduating high school from the Escambia County Training School in Atmore (Class of 1959), she moved to Hartford, Conn. in 1960. While in Connecticut, she worked at Northeast Utilities in Wallingford, Conn. for 13 years and 12 years for Travelers Insurance Co. in Hartford as well as the Hartford Civic Center.

She was an active member of Liberty Christian Center under the leadership of Pastor Bolton. She was an active member of Toastmasters Association, where she received numerous awards for public speaking. She also attended classes at Woodlawn Community College in Hartford.

Emily relocated back to Atmore in 2001 after retiring from a lucrative career in Hartford, Conn. While back in Atmore, she immediately became involved in the community as an active member of the PCRC Organization. She also served as a substitute teacher at Escambia County Middle School. Emily was an avid reader, loved to dance and loved to watch NBA basketball.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alberta Harris-Reynolds and Willie B. Harris (Rethanal Reynolds); two children, Rethanel Bernard Thames and Timothy Eugene Brooks; her brother, Herman Montgomery; and her devoted friend, Eugene Brooks.

She leaves to cherish her memories three sons, Vincent Thames (Angela), Jeffrey Thames and Anthony Brooks (Bridget); two daughters, Jennifer Thames (Dion) and Deatrice Brooks; three brothers, DeShazo Reynolds (Lee-Ann), Tony Harris and Vincent Harris; and four sisters, Jacqueline R. Peterson, Lora Mosely (Willie), Barbara Harris-Mars (Norman) and Dorothy Harris. She also leaves to cherish her memories her precious grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. this Sat., March 10, 2018, at Empowerment Tabernacle. Interment will be held in Stallworth Cemetery.
Public viewing will be held from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. this Fri., March 9, 2018, at the Christian Memorial Funeral Home.

E.Z. Wiggins

E.Z. Wiggins, 68, died on Mon., Feb. 19, 2018, at Fairhope Nursing Home.

Wiggins was born on July 16, 1949, in Atmore and was a lifelong resident.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah Wiggins of Foley; his children, Wilbert Nettles, Minnie Hodges, Ezekiel Nettles, Clarisa Nettles, Edgar Nettles, Eric Coley, Ray Wiggins, Sonja Rivers and Leana Bullard; brothers, Claude Wiggins, John Wiggins, Joe Wiggins and Prince Wiggins; aunt, Esther Wiggins; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Arelious and Annie Ree Wiggins; brother, Arelious Wiggins Jr., Manford Wiggins, David Lee Wiggins and Edward Wiggins.

Memorial services were held on March 1, at the Christian Memorial Funeral Home in Atmore, where Claude Wiggins officiated.

James Edward Findley

Mr. James Edward Findley, 72, passed away on Sat., March 3, 2018, in Pensacola, Fla.

He was a native of Brewton and resided in Atmore. He was a veteran of the Vietnam conflict, serving with the U.S. Air Force, retired from Kimberly Clark Papermill with 38 years of service, a member of the NRA, American Legion and the Fretwell Tabernacle Holiness Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Lucille Findley; and father in law, Billy E. Parnell.

Survivors include his wife, Rosa Marie Findley of Atmore; one son, Jamie Boyington (Jessica Nichole) of Pine Grove; three daughters, Stephanie Findley of Atmore, Ashley Darlene Findley of Perdido and Hollie Marie Findley of Perdido; six grandchildren, Hunter Devin Findley, Ashton Kevin James Findley, Gabbie Boyington, Jonathan Hadley, Starsea Breeze Hadley and Preston Boyington; and special friend, Jack Findley.

Funeral services will be held at noon tomorrow, Thurs., March 8, 2018, from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Sister Helen Stewart officiating.

Burial will follow at the Brooklyn Baptist Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the noon service time tomorrow, March 8, 2018, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Hunter Findley, Ashton Findley, James Boyington, J.C. Hadley, Jonathan Hadley and Gabbie Boyington.

Helen Lewis passed away on Sun., March 4, 2018, at her residence in Brewton.

Ruby Lee Watson

Ms. Ruby Lee Watson, 97, of Atmore, answered the master’s call on Sat., March 3, 2018, at Atmore Nursing Care Center.

Moving to Atmore from Atlanta years ago, Ms. Watson had been a member of Second Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. She was a domestic engineer.

She was preceded in death by her daughters, Mary Elizabeth Watson and Martha Ray Watson; a son, George Watson; her parents, George and Nancy Brown; three sisters, Stella Jones, Mary Alice Bradford and Essie Lee Brown; and all of her brothers, Willie Ingram, George Lee Brown, Albert Brown, I.V. Brown, Willie James Brown, Richard Brown and Johnny Brown.

She is survived by two sons, Robin and Ernest Watson, both of Atlanta, Ga.; her last sister, Louise Ingram of Mobile; five grandchildren; host of great-grandchildren; nieces; one devoted niece, Helen McCreary; nephews; and other family.

Funeral service will be this Fri., March 9, 2018, at 1 p.m. at The Longmire-Jones Memorial Chapel of Turner Funeral Chapel with Apostle Louis Banks, officiating. Retirement of her remains will be in Fairview Cemetery. Public viewing will be tomorrow, Thurs., March 8, from 2-7 p.m. at the funeral home with Turner Funeral Chapel LLC directing.
