Two area basketball teams are ranked in the first 2018-19 Alabama Sports Writers Association basketball poll, which was released today.

Escambia County is No. 3 in Class 4A, while Escambia Academy is No. 7 in AISA in boys basketball.

The Blue Devils improved to 6-0 after a 58-34 win over St. Luke’s Monday. Other wins for ECHS include against TR Miller (70-23), Flomaton (72-42), Vigor (64-62), Monroe County (72-58) and Baldwin County (72-51).

Escambia Academy is 6-2 after a 61-27 win over Central Christian on Tuesday. The Cougars’ recent wins include a 54-51 win over Patrician on Monday; a 72-33 win over Snook; a 72-48 win over Sparta; a 55-51 win over Marengo; and a 70-42 win over Jackson Academy. Losses were to Macon East (65-37) and Evangel Christian (57-30) at the start of the season.
