Mrs. Callie Brooks Thames, 88, of Atmore (Freemanville Community), answered the Master’s Call on Tues., Oct. 8, 2019, in Pensacola, Fla.

A native of Frisco City (Monroe Co.), Ms. Callie was a graduate of Bethel Industrial Academy in Monroeville. After relocating to Atmore, she united with the Mt. Gillead Baptist Church (Freemanville Community). She was a people person and enjoyed cooking and fellowshipping with friends in the community and church members. She also played both the violin and piano.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henderson Thames; a son, Reginald Thames; her parents, William and Ada B. Brooks; two sisters, Mary Johnson and Nazzie Ree Reynolds; and three brothers, David Brooks, Bill Brooks, and Gordon Brooks.

Those left to cherish memories of her life are two sons, Gregory (Mary) Thames of Bay Minette and Regeory (Linda) Thames of Atmore; two sisters,  Dorothy Brazzell and Mattie Bynum-Johnson, both of Atmore; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister in law, Amelia Brooks of Atmore; nieces, one special great niece, Asia Mohammad of Rancho, N.M.; nephews, one special great nephew, Xavier Wiggins of Jacksonville, Fla.; cousins; and devoted friends, Retha Quarker, Verdell Malone, Don Moorer, Clarice Dailey and the entire Dailey Family.

A funeral service was held Oct. 12, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Gillead Baptist Church (Freemanville Community) with the Rev. Gary Bryant, pastor, officiating. Thine Earthly bed shall rest in Fairview Cemetery with TURNER FUNERAL CHAPEL directing.
