The story of Jayden Jackson continues.

The Northview senior running back broke the school’s all-time career rushing record Friday night during a 34-15 district victory over Jay, Fla.

Leading into tonight’s game, Jackson had 991 yards on the season. He scored three touchdowns for the Chiefs during the victory over the Royals.

Jackson said he was encouraged to keep the pedal to the metal during the game.

“I knew we were close,” he said about the record. “Coach (Wes Summerford) kept saying to keep our foot on the game, and that’s what I kept doing.”

In fact, Jackson broke the record on a 79-yard touchdown rush late in the second quarter. NHS led 28-7 at halftime.

Helping Jackson, other than the offensive line, was blocker and good friend, Jamarkus Jefferson.

Jefferson, who had some strong runs of his own against the Royals, said the team was firing on all cylinders.

On Jackson, Jefferson said he’s known his teammate since they were 9 years old playing little league football.

“We always had that kind of bond,” Jefferson said. “I look up to him like a brother. He pushes me to be better.”

Jackson scored a 53-yard touchdown run on the Chiefs’ first possession of the second half.

With this victory, the Chiefs improve to 4-1 overall, and 3-0 in Class 1A, District 1 action. NHS hosts Chipley next week for homecoming.

On the defense, NHS head football coach Wes Summerford said he challenged them to play a complete game.

“We did well,” Summerford said. “We made some improvements. We’ve got to get better. I’m really proud of them. They stepped up a lot. I’m proud, as defensive coaches, I’m proud of our staff.”

Summerford said they’re still finding the right fit, and when they find the right click, they’ll know.
