EA Lady Cougars finish tourney 1-1

After opening their season with a loss to the Sparta Academy Lady Warriors, the Escambia Academy Cougars picked up their first win of the season defeating the Lowndes Academy Lady Rebels 46-26 on Tuesday in the Thanksgiving tournament hosted by Lowndes Academy.

The Lady Cougars (1-1, 0-0) dominated for four quarters against the Lady Rebels leading from start to finish.

Cougars head coach Heath Gibson said his team’s strong defense helped them earn their first win.

“We played great defense,” Gibson said. “We still have to shoot better and until we have better shooting, we’ll just have to keep playing good defense.”

Senior Amber Huskey led the Lady Cougars with 12 points and 12 rebounds in the win.

Lady Cougar Taylor Helton posted nine points and 12 rebounds, while Lacie Flowers scored six points.

Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Cougars were Rachel Fuller, Samantha Lee and Grayson Emmons with four points each.

Poor shooting was the story for the Escambia Academy Lady Cougars as they opened their season with a 54-37 loss to the Sparta Lady Warriors on Monday in the Thanksgiving tournament hosted by Lowndes Academy.

The Lady Cougars (0-1, 0-0) only had three players score in the loss with senior Amber Huskey leading the team with 22 points, 12 rebounds and four steals.
