EA Cougars defeat Atmore Christian Rams

Darron McGhee and Tanner Kirk led the way for the Escambia Academy Cougars as they beat the Atmore Christian School Rams 49-41 in Canoe on Tuesday afternoon.

McGhee led the team with 18 points, while Kirk had 11 and the Cougars just pushed past their rivals from down the road. McGhee also finished with 12 rebounds, two assists and one block and Kirk had six rebounds, two steals and one assist.

In the first quarter, the Cougars jumped to an early lead as they outscored ACS 15-6.

The Cougars continued to lead the game and extended their lead before halftime as they outscored the Rams 13-10 to lead 28-16 at the break.

After halftime, the Rams cut the Cougars’ lead from 10 to nine as they outscored EA 10-9 in the third period.

In the final quarter, the Rams made a final push for a win, but the lead the Cougars had already built was too much as ACS outscored them 15-12, but still fell 49-41.

Cougar Keaton Maher added eight points and 15 rebounds for the Cougars to go along with four blocks and one steal.

Wesley Steadham scored four points for EA and posted three rebounds and a steal.

Brandon Goddard, Jaylen Henry and Jordan Sasser all finished with three points. Goddard had four steals, three rebounds and an assist, while Henry had three rebounds and a block and Sasser recorded an assist.

Robert Whatley finished the win with two points and two rebounds.
