With David Johnson leading the way, a victory for the Escambia County Middle School Eagles was never in doubt on Thursday night.

Johnson led ECMS with 16 points as the Eagles crushed the UMS-Wright Bulldogs 46-25 at ECMS in their final home game.

The Eagles (9-3) dominated the contest as they continuously pounded points onto the scoreboard.

In the first quarter, the Eagles jumped out to an early lead as they outscored the Bulldogs 12-6.

The Eagles continued to play strong on defense pressuring the Bulldogs into mistakes, which they turned into points. Before the break, the Eagles went on a 13-3 run to cruise into halftime leading 25-9.

Follwoing the break, the Eagles held their lead and never let up through the third or fourth quarters.

ECMS and UMS-Wright battled in the third quarter, which turned out to be the most competitive the game would be. The Eagles and Bulldogs each scored 11 points with the Eagles continuing to lead 36-20.

In the fourth quarter, the Eagles put one final run together outscoring the Bulldogs 10-5 to earn their ninth win of the season.

Aside from Johnson’s performance, the Eagles saw production from Melik McMillian who scored six points, Anthony Myles with five and Ty McNeal and Coby Smith adding four each.

The Escambia County Lady Eagles lost their final home game of the season falling 36-28 to the UMS-Wright Lady Bulldogs on Thursday night at ECMS.

The Lady Eagles (8-4) trailed UMS-Wright for the entire game as they Lady Bull Dogs jumped out to an 8-4 lead in the first quarter and led at halftime 14-9.

Following halftime, the Lady Eagles were able to cut into the Lady Bulldogs’ lead, but could not overcome the deficit that UMS built in the fourth quarter.

In the third quarter, the Lady Eagles chipped away at the UMS-Wright lead by outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 9-6.

Down 20-18 at the start of the fourth, the Lady Eagles allowed the Lady Bulldogs to increase their lead as they fell 36-28.

Nicole Johnson led ECMS with 11 points and 10 rebouunds.
