URIAH – George Laurie Jr. of Uriah passed away Thursday, Jan. 20 after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Montgomery to George and Eloise Garrett Laurie. He graduated high school from Marion Military Institute and attended both Livingston and Auburn universities.

George lived most of his life in Uriah where he was a member of Uriah Methodist Church. He was a retired farmer who also owned and operated Jeddo Flying Service, an aerial application business and aircraft maintenance company for many years.

Survivors include one son, George (Jenny) Laurie III of Uriah; one daughter, Jacquelyn Leigh (John) Cleary of Montgomery; one sister, Jacquelyn Eloise (Jackie) Laurie of Montgomery; one brother, Robin Garrett (Debbie) Laurie of Montgomery; four grandchildren, Ansley and George (IV) Laurie of Uriah and Emma and Jack Cleary of Montgomery; one niece, Elizabeth Anne Laurie and one nephew, Robin Garrett Laurie Jr. of Montgomery.

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011 at Uriah Methodist Church with Dr. John Thomas and Julie Schaub officiating. Visitation was held from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the church prior to service time. Interment followed in the Uriah Cemetery with Johnson Funeral Home directing.
