Devils to take court

The Escambia County Blue Devils basketball team will take the floor one more time this year before hanging up their jerseys completely.

The Blue Devils will take part in a Relay for Life charity basketball game being hosted by The Atmore Advance at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 7 at Escambia County High School.

The basketball game will feature the Blue Devils taking on a rag tag group of “celebrities” from around the community.

That group of community members includes the Blue Devils’ head basketball coach Anthony Hayes, ECHS assistant principal Dale Jones, First National Bank & Trust’s Lance Blackburn, United Bank’s Dale Johnson, Atmore Area YMCA manager Ross Terry, Shane Hadley of Baldwin County Pest Control, pastor Bernard Bishop, Atmore firefighter Eugene Edwards, myself and the Advance’s own Adam Prestridge as coach.

Our team, the Cancer Crushers, will faceoff (and probably be destroyed) with the Blue Devils in order to raise money through ticket sales and concessions for Relay for Life.

It will be a great cause and should be fun for every one involved.

For those of you who are playing, you will be contacted today and asked a question or two and informed of what will take place next week.

Students will get the first chance to witness the game being they will be at school, but the public is invited to attend this event.

We encourage you to come out and support the teams and mainly the cause because it is what matters most.
