Thompson Ks 11 Warriors, leads Cougars to win

Five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning put the Escambia Academy Cougars game against the Pensacola Christian Academy Warriors out of reach Thursday in Canoe.

The Cougars (9-1) leading 10-4 heading into the sixth inning ripped off the huge inning that ended the game on the 10-run rule. In the inning Nate Smith (1-for-1, 3B, 3RBI) was the big hitter knocking in the three runs that ended the game 15-4.

The win was not assured for the Cougars early in the contest, as the Warriors jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
After falling behind, the Cougars began chipping away at the lead scoring one run in the first inning followed by two in the second inning before taking the lead 6-4 with a three-run third inning.

Escambia Academy extended its lead in the bottom of the fourth with four runs to pull ahead 10-4, and eventually closed the game with the five-run sixth inning.

On the mound, Michael Thompson earned the win pitching a complete game striking out 11 batters, while allowing four earned runs.
At the plate, Cougar Clayton Dyess was the leader going 3-for-3 with a double, four RBIs and two runs scored.

Cameron McGhee also had a multi-RBI game with knocking in two runs on  1-for-4 batting that included a double.

Other Cougars with RBIs included Reid Bell (2-for-4, RBI), Chance Jackson (1-for-4, RBI), Cole Boatwright (1-for-4, RBI) and Austin Ryan (0-for-2, RBI).

Rounding out the hitting for EA were Jarrett Hadley (1-for-4, R) and Thompson (1-for-4, 2B).

The Cougars next game will be Tuesday on the road against Jackson Academy. The game begins at 6 p.m.

Jarrett Hadley was the big bat for the Escambia Academy Cougars Tuesday when they faced off against the Atmore Christian School Rams.

Hadley hit 3-for-3 and knocked in four runs, while scoring three of his own, and the Cougars crushed the Rams 19-1.

Reid Bell and Cameron McGhee also got in on the action at the plate, with Bell recording three RBIs on 3-for-3 batting, while McGhee went 1-for-1 with two RBIs.

For the Rams, Jonathan Bender (0-for-2, RBI) hit an RBI-fielder’s choice that scored Christian Scott (0-for-0, BB, R) to give the Rams their only run of the game.
