Escambia Academy capped a stellar basketball season by having three players selected to compete in this weekend's AISA All-Star Game at Huntingdon College in Montgomery.
The Lady Cougars, fresh off their first state championship, sent two seniors n Amy Ridgeway and Jenifer Dykes n to the all-star game. The EA boys, who advanced to their fifth consecutive Final Four, placed its leading scorer, Josh Lilly, on the team.
Ridgeway, a four-year-starter at EA, was the emotional leader of the team at the point guard position. EA head coach Chad Prewett said she may be most responsible for the Lady Cougars' rise to the top of the private school ranks.
Dykes averaged 16 points this season but saved her best games of the season for the Final Four, where she scored 21 and 23 points, respectively. She was also one of the team's top rebounders.
As the only returning starter, Lilly shouldered much of the scoring load for the Cougars, averaging 19 points per game. He also led the team in assists and steals.
All three players said they were excited to be chosen all-stars and to have the opportunity to play with and against the top players in the state.
