The first thing students at Escambia Academy will notice when they report to school on Aug. 15 is a computer lab full of brand new, up-to-date computers.
Almost all students in the school will have an opportunity to use the computers whether it is to write research papers or use the internet.
The school will also begin using Accelerated Reader for first through sixth grade classes.
up the school.
Rachel Patterson Elementary School
Kindergartners through second graders who will be attending Rachel Patterson Elementary can expect several new faces and programs offered to help them learn the fundamentals of reading and language.
The school will have four new teachers this year, one in kindergarten, two in first grade and another in second grade.
To help the new and familiar teachers with their jobs will be a recently adopted english and spelling series for each of the grades.
Something the children will have a lot of interest in is a new playground that was added to the school during the final weeks of the last school year. The students had just enough time to acquaint themselves with the new equipment before school ended so many of them are probably looking forward to hitting the playground this fall.
As for the campus, Powell said the school is fortunate that its appearance is still very attractive.
Parents and students are encouraged to attend the school's open house this Sunday from 2 to 3 p.m.
The students' classroom assignments will be posted at the open house.
Bratt Elementary School
The students at Bratt will notice something different right away. A new building is being constructed at the school that will allow for four additional fourth and fifth grade classrooms. However, this addition will not be completed until winter and the construction should not impact the current classes.
The focus of academics for the upcoming school year in the Escambia County (Fla.) school district is reading. Bratt Elementary is taking a lead in helping their students become excited about opening books.
There also will be two new teachers at Bratt-one in the first grade and another in the second grade.
Students can began getting use to school as orientation is planned for Friday, from 8 until 9:30 a.m.
School begins at Bratt Elementary on Monday, Aug. 14.
