A new day has dawn for students, teachers and faculty in the Atmore area.
After years of planning, school officials presented the keys to the new Escambia County Middle School to principal Herbert Payne this past Sunday.
Speaking to a large group outside the school Sunday afternoon, board of education member W. J. Grissett said although the new building doesn't provide good teachers, it does provide and environment for good teaching.
Superintendent Dr. Margaret Breland-Bradely said the school was a lasting monument to producing educated citizenry and an edcuated work force.
After Bradley presented the keys to the building to Paine, the two of them joined Grissett and other city and state leaders in cutting the ribbon, officially opening the school to the public.
Speaking to the group as she cut the ribbon Bradley said, "This is the house of widom."
Mary Pasley, a teacher at the school, said many of her students had been by her classroom that afternoon.
