To the Editor:
Dozens of area residents participated in the American Heart Association Cardiac Arrest last week.
We wish to thank the members of the Parole Board for their good work – Joyce Bolden, Taylor Faircloth, Regina Gohagan, Anne Hetzel, Howard Shell and Donna Watson. They invested a considerable amount of time in enlisting "jailbirds."
Thanks also to our courtroom staff. Probate Judge Devon Wiggins did a great job as Judge "Heartless." His keen sense of humor makes him the ideal person for this Cardiac Arrest position. Keith Watson was an excellent bailiff, although Gertha Frye and Scott Hurst from Atmore Nursing Care Center did make a break for it. Cathy McKinley was our photographer, snapping mug shots of every jailbird.
This year, for the first time, we had corporate sponsors. We know that businesses and industries in Atmore are asked daily for donations. We also know that businesses and industries in Atmore are generous to a fault. Our major sponsors were United Bank, Alto Products, Days Inn, Creek Bingo Palace, Frontier Communications, Church's Chicken, Atmore Community Hospital and Staff Chevrolet. The contributing sponsors were Atmore Industries, Z-tel and Atmore Ambulance.
A huge heart-felt thanks to all our jailbirds. Atmore's contribution to the Heart Association is more than $16,000 this year. That's due to your efforts. Pat yourselves on the back.
