Next month, Atmore will be flooded with young ladies (and a few guys) as the local Atmore Area All Star Cheerleader squad hosts the National Cheerleaders Association Regional competition.
Beth Wright, director and coach, said hundreds of cheerleaders, parents and sponsors are expected to attend the competition which will be held at Escambia County Middle School Saturday, Oct. 28.
Atmore Area All Star Cheerleaders is a competition squad only. They excel in cheering, tumbling and stunts. They're not a school squad that cheers at ballgames and pep rallies.
All Stars are girls, ninth grade and younger, from most area schools in that range. Wright said guys are welcome on the squad too.
Wright said all squads are invited to participate in the regional event next month. School squads and competition squads will compete in their divisions, schools against schools and all stars against all stars.
Hosting the regional competition is a real boost for the local girls.
Atmore All Stars will use the money for national competitions.
