Mrs. Bertie Leona Godwin, 94, died Thursday, September 28, 2000, at a local hospital.
Mrs. Godwin was a native and lifelong resident of Oak Grove. She was employed in the lunchroom of Oak Grove School and Earnest Ward and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar C. Godwin and two daughters, Mary Evelyn Godwin and Armontine Biggs.
Mrs. Godwin is survived by two sons, Julian Godwin and his wife, Burnis, of Pensacola and Roy "Bubby" Godwin and his wife, Marvett, of Oak Grove; two daughters, Joyce Fore and her husband, Earl, of Robinsonville and Betty Dennis and her husband, Donald, of Oak Grove; a brother, Jacob Godwin of Pensacola; a son-in-law, Lloyd Biggs and his wife, Virgie, of Canoe; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday September 30 at 2 p.m. at Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Gilley and the Rev. David Campbell officiating.
Burial followed at Oak Grove Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were her grandchildren, Steve Godwin, Mike Biggs, Ricky Fore, Randy Fore, Dwight Godwin, Douglas Godwin, Lamar Godwin, Ryan Godwin, Jeffrey Dennis, Mark Dean and Cheryl Campbell. Honorary pallbearers were the Senior Adult Ladies Sunday School Class at Oak Grove Baptist Church.
