The no burn policy enacted in the city earlier this year has not been lifted. In fact, the policy is even more crucial now, according to Atmore Fire Chief Gerry McGhee.
While the department is within its rights to take legal action against ban violators, McGhee said they would rather not do that. Usually just a warning is enough.
McGhee said he doesn't know how long the ban will be in effect.
The city's ban on burning does not affect residents in the county. But McGhee reminds them that they are supposed to notify the Forestry Commission in Brewton when they are planning to burn debris. The Forestry Commission's number is 800-672-3076.
