To the editor:
Northview High School would like to thank everyone who helped make the barbecue plate fundraiser on Jan. 19, for Coach Williams a huge success. There was an overwhelming response in the purchase of plates (more than 1,300 sold), in the assistance to prepare, serve and deliver, and in the overall spirit of cooperation.
A special thanks goes to the NHS Quarterback Club, under the very capable leadership of Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Greenwell, for the organization of this event. The Quarterback Club and the school have both received many compliments on the meal, and although there were many who helped, a special gentleman, Mr. Charles (Chubby) Havard from Jay, who donated the services of his commercial rotisserie grill and his expertise in its operation, made it possible to serve as many plates as early as was done with such a delicious result! Another special thanks goes to the NJROTC cadets who assisted and to the men and women who took the day off from their jobs to help.
As an update on Coach Williams' condition: Coach Williams will travel to Birmingham on Monday, Jan. 29, for further medical evaluation. His wife, Kathy, reports that they have had two successes in his condition since his original surgery and diagnosis. The chemo has had a positive effect, plus he can now begin to tolerate a full liquid diet. His personal family and his Northview family are all very excited about these two accomplishments. All of us would like to extend our heartfelt thanks for the outpouring of help for Coach Williams and his family.
