Moonpies, beads, cups and candy.
It's Mardi Gras in Atmore.
The Ladies of Essence third annual Mardi Gras parade rolls this Saturday morning, and hundreds are expected to line the streets, yelling for moonpies and other throws.
The theme for this year's parade is "Turning Back the Hands of Time."
Grand Marshal is Grantt Culliver, deputy warden at Holman Prison.
King Derik Grissett and Queen Fekishia Boykin, who were crowned at the ball last Saturday night, will ride in the parade.
Watkins expects about a half dozen floats this year. For safety reasons, the Ladies of Essence are asking that no go-carts, three-wheelers or four-wheelers be included.
Line-up will begin at 10:00 a.m. at city hall. Members of Kappa Alpha Psi again will be in charge of the line up. The parade is scheduled to roll at 11.
The parade route is as follows: line up at city hall, go south on Presley, turn right on Church, go north on Main, right on Ashley, left on Carver, and left on Martin Luther King to Houston Avery Park.
The parade will roll rain or shine.
Mardi Gras T-shirts are still available. Call 368-8616 or 368-1304.
