To the editor:
I recently discovered a treasure in Escambia County – Turtle Point Science Center in Flomaton! This facility, which came about from the hard work of many people, led by the tireless efforts of Shirley West, is extraordinary.
The facility and exhibits provide an outstanding opportunity to give us a better understanding of the natural world. The center's emphasis on developing knowledge and appreciation of aquatic resources is of great importance today as these resources are being threatened worldwide. As somebody who taught biology for many years, I see Turtle Point as a valuable learning tool for students of all ages.
You won't find many places in Alabama to equal the Turtle Point Science Center. If you haven't been there, I encourage you to visit. Tremendous effort is required to get a facility like Turtle Point Science Center off the ground and even more to keep it going. Escambia County should be proud of this treasure.
