Monroe slips past Cougars

Escambia Academy suffered their first loss of the season as Monroe Academy slipped past the Cougars, 6-4.
Monroe started the game hot as they scored three runs in the top of the first inning. EA scored one in the bottom of the inning and then tied the game with two runs in the second.
Monroe recaptured a one-point lead in the top of the third. After two quiet innings, Monroe notched two more runs to pull ahead of the Cougars by three, 6-3. The Cougars added one more run in the bottom of the sixth, but was as close as they came to catching the leaders as umpires called the game due to darkness during Monroe's at-bat in the seventh.
Leading EA at the plate were Michael Cannon who went two for four and scored a run, Josh Davis also went two for four and drove in a run, and Nick Jackson went one for three.
Brian Adair suffered the loss on the mound for the Cougars as he pitched five innings, giving up 10 hits and striking out 5 batters.
The loss drops Escambia Academy to 1-1 on the season.
The Cougars hosted South Montgomery Academy in their first area contest of the season on Friday and then traveled to Warrior on Saturday.
The Cougars will face off against Faith Academy at home on Tuesday.
