Escambia Academy Cougars baseball team has clinched a playoff berth – the only question remaining is whether they will finish first or second in the area.
The Cougars defeated area opponent Sparta Academy twice last week to finish 4-1 in their area.
Rob Mosley secured the victory as EA's pitcher in the first game, which the Cougars won 8-4. Tripp Dawson took the mound in the second game and helped lead his team to a 13-6 victory.
With the playoffs just around the corner, the Cougars will be waiting for the outcome of two contests between Sparta and South Montgomery Academy this week. If SMA wins both games they will have earned the area title. But, if Sparta wins just one, then Escambia Academy can still secure the first place position.
The Cougars can not sit and watch though, they have one more very important game coming up on Monday as they host Crenshaw Christian Academy. In order to finish first in their area, they must win the game.
They are coming off of a two-game losing skid as they fell to Grove Hill on Monday, 9-6, and then to Faith Academy on Tuesday, 8-3.
If the Cougars finish first in the area, it will give them home-field advantage as they will host the first round of the playoffs. If they finish second they will most likely travel to South Montgomery.
The Cougars' overall record stands at 7-11.
This week will mark the end of the regular season for the Cougars. Their final two games will be CCA on Monday at home and then they will travel to Catherine Academy for the final regular season game on Tuesday.
