Escambia County seniors participated in Law Day last Wednesday and Friday.
Wednesday, seniors from W.S. Neal High School and T.R. Miller High School were in the Brewton Courthouse. Seniors from Escambia Academy, Escambia County High School and Flomaton High School attended Friday's session.
Students were selected to make up the jury. They heard real a real case, deliberated and rendered a verdict. This was not a mock trial. Parties involved agreed to abide by the verdict.
Friday's group heard a drug case presented by the offices of attorneys Michael Godwin and Todd Stearns. Judge Joseph Brogden presided. Sheriff Tim Hawsey, Billy Earl Cook, president of the Escambia County Bar Association, and Judge Gordon R. Batson also participated.
