An Atmore man was struck by two gunshots Thursday night and another was arrested the following day as a result of a domestic dispute.
Johnny Lee Simpson Jr., a 31-year-old male of 66 Jones St., was arrested and charged with assault, second degree after allegedly shooting a 17-year-old male of Atmore.
The APD received the initial call on the shooting, which occurred at 64 Jones St., at 8:49 p.m. Simpson made the initial call to the police.
According to APD Investigator John Brantley, Simpson flagged down APD Officer Leon Kizer, who was responding to the call, and told him that he had shot the victim and wanted to turn himself in. Kizer took the suspect into custody at that time and he was taken to the police department to be interviewed.
Police found the victim lying in the street with gunshot wounds to his right knee and left foot. The victim was transported to Atmore Community Hospital by Atmore Ambulance Service were he was treated and released that same night.
Simpson allegedly used a 380 caliber semi-automatic pistol.
A witness told police that Simpson had gotten involved in a domestic dispute between the victim and his girlfriend. A heated argument between the suspect and the victim took place and at some point Simpson pulled out a handgun and fired two shots at the victim.
Brantley stated that Simpson was charged with assault instead of attempted murder due to the fact that serious bodily injury did not occur.
The shooting is still under investigation pending further interviews with witnesses.
