Mr. Steven Eugene Dees, Sr., 64, of Molino died suddenly at home on Sunday, May 20, 2001.
Mr. Dees was preceded in death by his parents, O.R. and Allene Dees, his first wife, Grace M. Dees, a son, Steven E. Dees, Jr. and two brothers, Fred Dees Sr. and Dale Dees.
Mr. Dees joined the Marine Corp in 1955 and retired in 1976. He fought in the Vietnam war serving four active tours and one inactive tour. He worked briefly as Chief of Police in Atmore and as a DA's investigator before joining the Alabama Department of Correction. He worked his way from Corrections officer I to Warden III during his service of 23 years. While working full time he also obtained his degree in Criminal Justice on June 6, 1980 from Troy State University. He retired from the Department of Corrections December 31,2000.
He is survived by his wife of seven years, Catherine M. Dees of Molino; three sons: Mark Dees and his wife, Genny of Montgomery, Tim Dees of Atmore and Jon Dees and his wife, Donna, of Fairhope; a sister, Elaine Dees Dean and her husband, Judson, of Flomaton,; 7 seven grandchildren, Ashley Mosley and her husband, Warren of Atmore, Al Kory, Joshua Dees and Blake Dees of Fairhope and Haley Dees, Chad Dees and Carmen Jones all of Montgomery.
He made many friends across the state of Alabama during his years with the Department of Corrections. He was a staunch Alabama fan and Irishman and was proud of both.
Services will be Wednesday, May 23, at 10 a.m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Bill Lindsey and Jeff Lyles officiating.
Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Larry Dean, Wayne Dean, Fred Dees Jr., Warren Mosley, James Madison, Harold Madison, Kory Dees and Tim Slate.
