The Jungle Aviation and Radio Service will be showing off this weekend at the Atmore Municipal Airport during a "Mission at the Airport."
The transportation company based out of Waxhaw, N.C. that works primarily with church mission groups in their travels to countries around the world to spread the gospel will host a public awareness program to teach people about the technologies involved in missionary aviation.
Included in the program will be a short take-off and landing by a Helio Courier, an airplane used on their trips. Rides in the planes will also be available at a cost.
There will be videos and presentations on the areas that JAARS works in, discussions on the safety of the planes and new technologies such as a non-electric, non-battery tape recorders and solar power equipment. Jungle pilots and other missionaries will also be on hand.
JAARS has been participating in the "Missions at the Airport" for approximately 17 years.
The "Mission at the Airport" will be held on June 2 and 3. On Saturday, the mission will be open from 9:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. On Sunday, the mission will open at 2 p.m. and will be completed by 5 p.m.
