The Escambia Academy Cougars weren't able to bring a win home from Friday night's game against Monroe Academy where they fell 37-7 in the second game of the season.
Though the game appeared to get off on the right foot for EA with what seemed to be a 65-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, the play was called back due to holding.
Despite the loss, Cannon said that some position shuffling since last week's loss to Clarke Prep seemed to be paying off.
EA's single scoring play came late in the game on a 35-yard fourth quarter pass from sophomore quarterback Kevin Adair to junior fullback Jace Beasley.
Beasley played his first game from the fullback position and had an outstanding night, racking up 106 yards on 21 carries.
Adair, whose running ability has proven to be critical for EA, was shut down by an aggressive Monroe Academy defense.
On the night, Adair passed eight times with five completions for a total 66 yards and one touchdown.
Brandon Moore, a freshman, also performed well from his tailback position.
Helping Adair hold in the pocket was an offensive line led by seniors Nick Ikner and Shaun Sirmon, who played in the EA backfield last week.
Sirmon was again a top defender, racking up 10 more tackles against Monroe Academy.
Sophomore Ray James also had a good night, getting six solo tackles.
Cannon also said the opposition played well.
Next week, the Cougars go back on the road to play Abbeville Friday at 7:30.
