Atmore resident Kevin Watson was in the Escambia County Detention Center Tuesday morning after turning himself in to law enforcement officers following a weekend slashing.
Watson, a resident of 5898 Robinsonville Road, Atmore, is charged with first degree assault after he allegedly slashed Brewton resident Johnny Lucas with a knife during an altercation at Frosty Acres Bar, a business located on Highway 21 near the Monroe County line. The incident occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. Sunday.
Lucas, who sustained a wound across his abdomen, was reportedly recovering from the attack in a Pensacola hospital Tuesday. Escambia County Sheriff Tim Hawsey said the extent of his injuries, while serious, were not life threatening.
Hawsey said the attack occurred, according to witnesses, when Watson and another individual were engaged in an altercation.
Hawsey said the attack was unfortunate and that he wishes the victim and the victim's family well.
According to Hawsey, Watson was arrested Tuesday morning when he turned himself in to authorities on the advice of counsel.
Bond had not been set at press time.
According to Hawsey, Lucas was scheduled to be released from the hospital later this week.
