Escambia Academy is hoping to claim their first win of what has started as a slow football season Friday night when they face Faith Academy of Mobile at home.
EA's first three games have left them with an 0-3 record, but Friday night, Coach Mickey Cannon said he hopes to see his young team play on their strengths and emerge with a win.
Cannon's starters include the team's only two seniors and a host of sophomores and freshmen. That inexperience was particularly troubling last Friday when a weak passing game collided with simple mistakes most notably turnovers and left EA with a heartbreaking 21-14 loss to Abbeville Christian.
Cannon said he is planning to take a look at the passing game and at the offense to see what changes will make his team more successful.
What that means remains to be seen, but Cannon said that he will throw a new look at Faith, hoping to learn from past mistakes.
Early this season, EA faced a loss to football powerhouse Clarke Academy in the season's first game. Clarke is defending 3A state champions and lost a mere four seniors from last year.
EA's luck didn't improve when the Cougars traveled to Monroeville for a loss to Monroe Academy.
But despite a good start early in the game against Abbeville, EA fell victim to their own mistakes, losing the ball six times in the game on turnovers. Two of those turnovers came inside the Abbeville 10.
Kickoff time against Faith Academy is 7:30 p.m. Friday at Escambia Academy.
