Please excuse the Blue Devils if they are optimistic this year. With five seniors and four juniors returning on a team that was 21-9 last year and made the playoffs for the fourth straight year the expectations are especially high.
The Devils gave eventual state champion.the Blount Leopards a run for their money before falling in the first round of last years playoffs.
But this year the Devils want revenge. and in their third game of the year, they will get it.
The Devils will try to wreck the state champions repeat hopes early in the year, with a win in the Leopards backyard.
The Devils starting lineup includes: senior Damien Robinson, senior Steve Moore, senior Barrett Finney, senior Terrance Hazley, and freshman Jeremy McCants.
The rest of the Devils are as follows: senior James Wilson, junior Kenny Clark, junior Katral Johnson, junior Layton Knight, junior Chris Johnson, and sophomore Trenton Barnes.
The Devils will try to rotate a lot of guys in to keep the effect of fatigue from setting in.
Coach Zarahn said,"our leadership will have to come from our seniors, who have been through the battles and our younger guys can learn from their expertise."
The Devils start their season Thursday night in W.S. Neal at 5:00, with the boys and girls varsity teams playing.
Friday night the Blue Devils will play Frisco City at home at 6:00, with only the boys varsity playing.
The Devils play a total of six area games and will have to win at least half to get into the playoffs.
The Blue Devils finish out the month with games at T. R. Miller and Robertsdale. Both games are at home. The T. R. Miller game will be at 5:00 and the Robertsdale game will be at 4:30.
The Robertsdale game is a area game for the Devils and they must try and win to get a edge in area play.
