Mr. A.D. Johnson, 68, died Monday, January14, 2002, after an extended illness.
He was a native and life long resident of Escambia County and was a retired assistant pulp mill superintendent with Jefferson Smurfit Corporation with 38 years of service. He was a member of Catawba Springs Baptist Church where he served as deacon, served on the Escambia County School Board over 27 years where he served as chairman, was a founding member of the McCall Water System where he served as president for 32 years, was a member of Norris Masonic Lodge 301 where he served as 33rd degree mason, and was very active in the Civitan Club. He was one of seven original chartered members of the Credit Union at Jefferson Smurfit and served as president from 1972 to 1992.
He is survived by his son, Steven Johnson of Birmingham; two daughters, Terri Parkinson and Sherry Layton, both of Brewton; one brother, Ray Johnson of Dacula, Ga.; four sisters, Virble DeVore of Birmingham, Gertrude Stephens of Spanish Fort, Ruth Nelson of Pinson and Olivia Killian of Gadsden and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, January 17, at 2 p.m. at Catawba Springs Baptist Church with Dr. Stephen Yuhasz officiating.
Burial followed at Catawba Springs Cemetery. with Williams Memorial Funeral Home directing.
