James murder trial set

Wednesday proved to be a busy day for drug enforcement agents in Escambia County as the 21st Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force and agents of the Alabama Alcohol, Beverage Control Board, the Atmore Police Department and the Task Force's K-9 Unit and the Escambia County Sheriff's Department joined forces to serve 38 Grand Jury indictments and to make two additional arrests for drug possession.
The indictments were the result of a joint operation between the various agencies represented in areas of known drug activity.
According to a press release sent out by the 21st Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force, approximately 51 defendants were indicted from more than 90 charges and several defendants had multiple cases.
Indictments were returned against these defendants during the Winter Session of the Escambia County Grand Jury.
During this round up, agents seized 84 bags of marijuana with an estimated street value of $3,300, which were packaged in bags containing four grams each.
An additional 10 bags of powder cocaine and crack cocaine with a total weight of 32 grams and a street value of about $3,800 were also seized along with three handguns.
Those arrested include:

Craig Brown, 26, Atmore – unlawful distribution of controlled substances and unlawful possession of controlled substances.
Jewel Lee Pettway, 24, Atmore – unlawful distribution of controlled substances and unlawful possession of controlled substances.
Shawn Henderson, 22, Atmore – unlawful distribution of controlled substances and unlawful possession of controlled substances.
Robert Foreman, 40, Atmore – unlawful distribution of controlled substances, unlawful possession of marijuana, and convicted felon in possession of a handgun.
Keith McPherson, 38, Atmore – unlawful possession of controlled substances and unlawful possession of marijuana, first.
Bobby Ryland, 62, Atmore n unlawful distribution of marijuana and unlawful possession of marijuana, first.

Donald David Clemmons, 39, Atmore n two counts of unlawful possession of controlled substances, and two counts of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to Glenn Carlee with the Task Force, the cooperative work of all agencies involved proved to be critical to the success of the operation.
"We had agents from the ABC Board, Baldwin County Sheriff's Office and other local agencies who helped us make this sweep a success," Carlee said.
The 21st Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force is comprised of the Atmore Police Department, the Brewton Police Department, the East Brewton Police Department, the Escambia County Commission, the Escambia County District Attorney's Office, the Escambia County Sheriff's Department, and the Flomaton Police Department.
