The Escambia County High School Lady Blue Devils softball team begin the new softball season younger, healthier, and with very high expectations of a great season.
The Lady Devils also have extra motivation for this year. They want to erase last years 2-0 sweep by Eufaula High School in the first round of the State Playoffs.
The Devils have nine girls coming back from last year: Senior Leslie Presley, Senior Jolecia Pearson, Senior Katie Lambert, Junior Shanna McMillian, Junior Hannah Rigsby, Junior Krystal Rolin, Junior Natalie Guy, Sophomore Valisa Hadley, and Sophomore Renee Wheeler.
The only new players on the varsity team are: Freshman Cassie Lassiter and Freshman LaSheka Williams.
As for as hitting goes, Coach Nall said that she will be relying on her two team captains to carry the load. "Katie Lambert and Hannah Rigsby will have to get the big hits for us in the first part of the season," Nall said. "They were two of our best hitters from last year and I hope that they will continue that trend into this year."
The Lady Devils begin the year Friday night at home against the Northview Lady Chiefs. The game will start at 6:00 and admission will be $3.00.
