Cougars defeat South Montgomery Raiders for third area win

E.A.'s varsity boys were seeking their third area win Friday afternoon as South Montgomery County Academy welcomed the Cougars to Raider country.
E.A. would wear out their welcome early.
With one out in the first inning, senior Michael Cannon would start the rally by drawing a walk.
Steven Shirley, Tripp Dawson, Jace Beasley, Justin Shirley, Kevin Adair, and Cody White would all score. Bradford Price would chalk up the last RBI of the inning as the Cougars built a seven run lead with the Raiders yet to bat.
The Raiders answered in the first as S.M.C.A.'s Haulton led off with a single. Rails then reached on an E.A. error, and the Raiders were in business with their first two batters on base.
With the two base runners running, McGinty would then hit a drive that was caught by left fielder, Kevin Adair, for one out. Adair fired to Cannon at 2nd base for out two. Cannon throws to Billy McCann at first for out three.
E.A. would add two more in the second and third innings with Jace, Justin, Bradford, and Michael knocking in l run each. The Cougars added one in the fourth and four more in the fifth to end the game at 16-2.
The Cougars 12 hit attack was led by J. Shirley (three hits, three runs, two RBIs), S. Shirley (three hits, two runs), Price (two hits, one run, two RBIs), White (two hits, two runs, four RBIs), Beasley (one hit, three runs, one RBI) and Adair (one double, one run, three RBIs). Cannon (one RBI) and T. Dawson would each score twice.
On the mound, Tripp allowed 2 runs (l earned), scattering 5 hits, and walking 2 while fanning 7. S.M.C.A.'s McGinty took the loss. Frazier's two hits led the Raiders offensively. E.A. improved its record to 6-5.
Coach Gibson said he's proud ofthe effort his players gave on this day.
With this win, the Cougars go to three wins and no losses in area play.
On Deck: E.A. vs. Evangel Christian in Montgomery on Thursday and then meet S.M.C.A. again on Friday in Canoe.
