After months of preparation, the Atmore Family Life Center will host its open House today at 4 p.m.
The center, located on the grounds of the old Escambia County Middle School on Martin Luther King Drive, had a rough time getting started. However in recent weeks the centers volunteers have worked overtime to have the center ready for today's open house.
The open house will highlight the activities planned for the summer, as well as the improvements made to the facility.
The program has enrolled over 189 children for the summer program. Yvonne Grissett, program director for the center, said that the kids come from many diverse backgrounds.
The open house will highlight some of the programs offered for the summer, including dance, art and chorus classes, as well as tutoring in math and reading areas.
The program will also be offering assistance in those preparing to take the math portion of the Alabama High School Graduation Exam.
The center's hours of operation will from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
Johnson urges everyone to get involved with this city wide program.
The open house will start at 4 p.m. Sunday and last about two hours, Grissett said. Organizers will present a short presentation and a tour of the building. Refreshments will be served.
