A drug bust last Friday resulted in the seizure of marijuana with a street value upwards of $10,000.
Peter Allen, 31, of 159 Ashley St., Atmore, was arrested on charges of unlawful possession of marijuana and unlawful distribution of a controlled substance.
Allen was arrested after agents with the 21st Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force and officers with the Atmore Police Department served a search warrant at Allen's home on Ashley Street.
Public Safety Director for the City of Atmore and DTF Chief said that undercover purchases were made from that resident and followed it with a search warrant.
Agents recovered five live marijuana plants and around $300 street value worth of packaged marijuana.
Along with the drugs, three handguns were seized along with five pit bulls being used to protect the plants.
Animal Control Officer Brad Johns took the animals to the Atmore Animal Shelter.
While agents with the DTF are unsure whether charges of animal cruelty will be raised, the DTF has recommended to the Animal Shelter that the dogs not be returned.
Officers with the DTF are still investigating the incident.
The 21st Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force is comprised of the following law enforcement agencies: Escambia County Sheriff's Department, Atmore Police Department, East Brewton Police
