Five Atmore residents are behind bars – including the father of boxing great Evander Holyfield – after a drug bust last week.
Isom Coley Sr., also known among many as "Kite", was apprehended at his home and charged with one count of distribution of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
Last Tuesday agents with the 21st Judicial Drug Task Force recovered a large amount of crack cocaine with a street value of roughly $1,500 and four firearms from Coley's residence.
Coley, 67, of 479 W Sunset Dr. in Atmore, was apprehended along with four other Atmore residents who were at his home:
Coley, America and Ramer all were charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful distribution of a controlled substance. Ramer was also charged with resisting arrest and escape (third degree) when she attempted to flee from officers after being transported to the Atmore Police Department.
Bryan and Neal were charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and Bryan received one charge of criminal mischief (second degree).
Officers executed a search warrant at the residence of Coley last Tuesday. Deputies with the Escambia County Sheriff's Office and officers with the Atmore Police Department assisted in the arrests.
The 21st Judicial Drug Task Force is comprised of the following law enforcement agencies: Escambia County Sheriff's Office, Atmore Police Department, East Brewton Police Department, Brewton Police Department, Flomaton Police Department, Escambia County District Attorney's Office and the Escambia County Commission.
The task force receives 75 percent of its funding from a grant funded by the Bureau of Justice Affairs Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. The remainder of the funding is provided by the ECSO, BPD, APD and the district attorney's office.
