J-Mar Trucking in Atmore has been purchased by a Nashville, Tenn., based company.
Last week, Western Express, Inc., of Nashville officially took over control of J-Mar's operations in both Atmore and Salt Lake City, Utah. Wayne Jensen, manager of the local facility, confirmed the purchase this week.
Jensen said he sees no changes in the immediate future for the company, which currently employs 450 people – including drivers – in the Atmore area.
"Western Express is buying all of J-Mar, both here and in Salt Lake City," Jensen said. "In the forseeable future, we expect no changes and no loss of jobs."
The acquisition means Western Express will now have 1,200 tractors in its fleet.
Western Express, Inc., is under the direction of President Wayne Wise. He could not be reached for comment at press time. The company seems to have a good reputation, as searches on the Internet turned up no negative publicity.
In a report on RealDrivers.com, one trucker had the following to say about the company:
"This is a very good company to work for. No sitting around waiting for a load, always ready. And a lot of miles. And they get you home anytime you want with no hassle.
"Nice trucks also …. good benefits. I have had no problems with this company at all. Good place to work."
