Cougars, Lady Cougars solid in opening action

Escambia Academy put together a successful run during Thanksgiving week, with the girls coming away with a pair of wins and the boys splitting games.
On Tuesday night, the Cougars and Lady Cougars traveled to Mobile to take on rival Faith Academy. The girls ended Faith's 33-game winning streak with a 54-32 victory while the boys dropped an eight-point decision.
Senior Jessica Gibbs led the Lady Cougars with 12 points and 10 rebounds in the game that snapped the long winning streak for Faith Academy.
Both teams traveled to Greenville the day after Thanksgiving to compete in the Fort Dale Academy Thanksgiving Classic, with both squads coming away with victories in opening round action.
The Cougars used a 10-5 run in overtime to come away with a 69-64 win over Lee-Scott Academy Friday and improve to 2-1.
Bradford Price led EA with 23 points and 10 assists while Robert Hardy added 13 points.
The girls had little trouble in disposing of Lee-Scott Academy in the first round of the tournament, rolling to a 48-22 victory. Gibbs led the way again, scoring 15 points and pulling down 12 rebounds in the win. Megan Jackson added 10 points for the Lady Cougars.
Both teams played in the championship game Saturday night. Results from those contests were not available at press time.
