Atmore police and fire personnel responded to a house fire at approximately 10 a.m. at 606 E. Laurel Street on Saturday morning. The fire was contained to the attic and there were no injuries.
Captain Lavon Parham of the Atmore Fire Department said the cause of the fire was unknown at the time. "It had a good jump on us, but we contained it in the attic. There's heavy water damage to the house," Parham said.
Corp. Barry Hurst of the Atmore Police was the first responder on the scene, "Everybody was already out and I noticed a whole lot of smoke coming out of each end. It must have started somewhere in the back of the house on the opposite side. The way it's burning, it looks like an attic fire."
The owner of the house, Tiny Moorer, watched from an adjacent property as the fire personnel fought to contain the blaze. She said her brother alerted her to the danger. "My brother was getting ready to go to work and saw smoke coming out of my roof," Moorer said.
