Chiefs defeat Central; reach tourney title game

Northview High School's Chiefs beat Central of Milton, 83-73, Monday night at the Jay Tournament in Jay and improved to 3-1 overall. The tournament concluded Tuesday night at 7 p.m. with Northview playing Flomaton for the championship. Flomaton edged out Jay 79-75 in a come-from-behind win on Monday after trailing Jay by 14 points at the start of the 4th to earn its spot in the bracket. . The results of the championship game were unavailable as of presstime.
Daryl Cohen had 49 points for the night followed by John Madison with 10 and Jarius Allen who added seven. Cohen was 8 for 15 at the line and had six rebounds. Nikita Watts also grabbed six rebounds in the contest. Central's Dusty Matthews lead his team with 22 points.
"It went back and forth," Northview Chiefs Head Coach Cliff Gillies said. "We didn't shoot free throws well. Central is 4-3 now and about our size. It was a good ballgame. Our team kept consistent and we wore them down."
In Friday night's play, Northview achieved a school milestone by beating Pace 76-65 at home. The win was the first for Northview in the two school's history, according to Gillies. "We were proud to win. We were down by 10 and came back. It was a tied game with four minutes left to play and we just gutted it up and were fortunate enough to come out on top. We win with defense." The Chief's leading scorer, Cohen, had 31 points in the contest. Shane Johnson added nine and Maurice Miles and Nikita Watts both had eight for the night.
