James Matthew "Matt" Byrd, 19, was killed in a one car accident on Upper Creek Road in Flomaton on Thursday , shortly after midnight. Byrd was driving a 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse vehicle.
Byrd was studying electronics at Reid State Technical College and an employee at Piggly Wiggly in Century. On his off days, he loved to play basketball. A resident of Pollard, Ala. throughout his short life, he attended the Flomaton First Baptist Church. State Troopers did not release the cause of the accident, which is still under investigation.
