Cougars top Evangel

The Escambia Academy Cougar basketball teams came away with three wins Tuesday night as they faced Evangel Christian on the road.
The JV girls began the evening's play as they topped Evangel 33-7. Lori Bonds was the top scorer with 20 points. Morgan Dorriety followed with four points. Jaime Drew, Courtney Smith, Clare Jones, and Alison Thomas each scored two points, and LeighAnn Everette scored one.
The JV boys lost their third consecutive game as Evangel defeated them 28-24. Cody Norton led the scoring with nine points. He was followed by Brandon Moore with six points, Andrew Lambeth with six, Joseph Drew with three points, and Bruce Smith with two points.
The Lady Cougars improved their record to 14-3 (second in the state) on Tuesday with their slaughter of Evangel, 72-22. Alison Thomas led the team with 13 points. Kaylie Castleberry scored 12, Jaime Drew scored nine, Rayleen Miller scored eight, Lori Bonds scored seven, Kerrianne Castleberry scored six, Mandy Norton scored five, Courtney Smith scored four, and Meagan Jackson, Anna Parish, Shelby Hester, and Morgan Dorriety each scored two points. Smith led the team in rebounds with 13. Miler followed with eight.
The Cougars defeated Evangel 69-50, bringing their record to 14-3. Jace Beasley continued his hot streak as he scored 18 points in the game, bringing him to a total of 59 points for the last three games. Bradford Price, just recently returned from an ankle injury, scored 14 points on the evening. Robert Hardy and Cody White each scored eight, followed by Cole Norton and David Daniel with seven, Chris Moore with six, and Zach Smith with one point. Norton led the team with 10 rebounds. Hardy made nine rebounds, Beasley made seven, Daniel made five, White made three, Smith made two, and Moore and Steven Shirley had one rebound each.
