ECHS heads to sub-regional action

Escambia County High School's boys basketball team will face at least one more opponent in the 2003-2004 season, no matter what the outcome of Tuesday night's 5A Area 3 Tournament championship game.
The Blue Devils were scheduled to face Wilcox-Central in the championship game Tuesday night after dispatching of Charles Henderson in first round action Saturday. Results from Tuesday night's contest were not available at press time.
For the girls team, the season ended on Friday night with an opening-round loss in the area tournament to Greenville High School.
The winner of Tuesday night's game will face the loser of the Eufaula-Russell County game in a sub-regional contest later this week. The loser of Tuesday night's contest takes on the winner of the EHS-Russell County contest.
Winners in the sub-regional contests will then advance to the 5A Southwest Regional Tournament at the University of South Alabama.
The semifinal game that could involve Escambia County is scheduled for Feb. 19 at 10:30 a.m. The championship game in the regional tournament for Class 5A boys is scheduled for 2:15 p.m. on Feb. 22.
The winners of the four regional tournaments will advance to the Class 5A Final Four, to be played at the Birmingham-Jefferson County Civic Center the weekend of Feb. 28-29.
