The Escambia County Blue Devils took a trip down the road and had a good time with a shutout of the Jay Royals on their own turf.
"We played a real good ballgame," said ECHS Boys Head Coach Keith Nall.
"We didn't hit the ball as well as we can but we got the hits when we needed them."
The Blue Devils scored three runs in the sixth inning with two outs.
Craig Montel was hit by a pitch with two outs. Chris Graham then singled, followed by an RBI single by Franklin Boykin.
Jordan Drew reached homeplate on an infield hit scoreing one, and Boykin scored on the play when the shortstop bobbled the ball.
"Franklin came up with a big hit in the inning to get us on the scoreboard," said Nall.
"Anthony Patrick did a great job on the mound for us. He threw a complete game shutout. Anthony mixed up his pitches well and kept Jay off balance all night."
"Overall I was well pleased with our preformance. We played an exellent deffensive game. They did not have a runner reach second all night."
Miles Smith played a good game at third for us said coach Nall. "He made several good plays in the field.
"This is what it takes, a good team. Right now everyone is contributing and that is what we need. We do not have a stand out player. In order for us to be competitive, it will takea team effort."
The Blue Devils are on the road again on Tuesday to face Flomaton on thier home turf.
