Northview Math Team takes top honors at JDCC tournament

Northview H igh School captured first place in Jefferson Davis Community College's annual math tournament held Thursday, Jan. 30.
Other schools receiving trophies were Sparta Academy of Evergreen, second place; T.R. Miller, third place; and Flomaton High School, fourth place. Also participating were W. S. Neal High School, Escambia Academy, Escambia County High School, and Atmore Christian School.
Individual awards went to the following students: Marcus Green, Northview High School, first place; Logan Miller, Northview High School, second place; Will McGloon, Sparta Academy, third place; Amanda Holland, T. R. Miller High School, fourth place; Caroline McCreary, Sparta Academy, fifth place; Brad Faulk, Northview High School, sixth place; Josh Williams, Sparta Academy, seventh place; Johnathan Chavers, Flomaton High School, eighth place; John Michael Walker, Escambia Academy, ninth place; Russel Kirkpatrick, Sparta Academy, tenth place.
Other team sponsors include Escambia County High School-Mason Stabler; Escambia Academy-Renee Hardy; T.R. Miller High School-Elaine King; Sparta Academy-Pat Cassady; Atmore Christian School-Jerold Stahley; Flomaton High School-Scott Hammond; W. S. Neal High School-Rachel Knowles; Northview High School-Darlene Lee.
JDCC's Mike Tedder, Allen Gainer, and Kevin Watson directed the tournament with assistance from members of JDCC's Phi Theta Kappa. Eight high schools and a total of 125 students participated in the daylong event. Teams competed for trophies and awards on a thirty-five-question exam and 16 "quick answer" cipher questions.
