Atmore City workers Don Whatley, Bradley Wood, Anthony Ward and Donnie Victor place work to secure the area around a large sinkhole that developed behind City Hall on Wednesday while Mayor Howard Shell inspects the damage. The sinkhole developed on top of a reportedly 100-year old trench that was once open but later covered with concrete with the street being built on top of it. "This will cost us about $3,500 to fix. If we had to contract it out, that could have easily been $25-30,000. Luckily, we have people in house that have the talent to do this kind of work," said Mayor Shell. The repairs were expected to be completed by the end of the week if all went well.
